MUFG has been recognised in Airfinance Journal's Deals of the Year Awards 2019, which celebrates the best-in-class airline, lessor and OEM financings to have closed over the past calendar year.

Airfinance Journal is a market leading financial publication of the global aircraft and aviation business. MUFG has been involved in aviation for more than 30 years, leveraging decades of experience and in-depth industry knowledge to provide a wide spectrum of financial solutions for clients globally. The awards demonstrate the strength and depth of the MUFG aviation business post the acquisition of assets last year from DVB and the expertise of the combined team going forward.

MUFG related awards:

Marilyn Gan, Managing Director and Head of Origination for Asia Pacific Aviation, was awarded Aviation Woman of the Year by the publication. Marilyn, who is based in Singapore, oversees the strategic growth of MUFG's aviation financing portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region.

MUFG was awarded for its role in a number of transactions:

  • Used Aircraft Deal of the Year: Sunclass Airlines Lease Restructuring for Three A321s – MUFG acted as security agent and facility agent on this deal, which saw the re-leasing of aircraft to Sunclass Airlines completed within a tight deadline.
  • M&A Deal of the Year: MUFG's acquisition of DVB Bank's Aviation Finance lending business - In 2019, MUFG expanded its global aviation offering, strengthening its team with the addition of highly experienced asset based finance and aviation specialists with the acquisition of DVB's Aviation Finance lending business.
  • Editor's Deal of the Year: Cargolux Airlines Two 747F Jolco Refinancing – Cargolux Airlines closed its first Japanese operating lease with call option (Jolco) transaction for a Boeing 747-400 freighter aircraft in January 2019. DVB Bank was the co-lender for the deal, and later in 2019, Cargolux Airlines refinanced a 747-400ERF aircraft with DVB Bank and JP Lease under a Jolco financing.
