MUFG opened its Doha Office on March 30, 2009, having acquired authorisation from Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority and a licence from Qatar Financial Centre Authority as a PIIB Category 4 firm on January 15, 2009.

MUFG's predecessor company the Bank of Tokyo opened a representative office in Johannesburg in 1961, but due to international economic sanctions against apartheid, the office closed in 1986. The Johannesburg Representative Office was reopened in 1991 after the abolition of apartheid, incorporating the territory of the former Nairobi Representative office. The Johannesburg office manages our business in 47 out of Africa's 55 countries.

The Dubai Branch opened in October 2012.
