Effective 1 April*, John Winter will be appointed as Regional Executive Officer (REO) for MUFG in EMEA, becoming the single leader in the region and succeeding Takanori 'Taka' Sazaki as REO for EMEA.
Consolidating regional authority in this single leadership structure will enhance integration across MUFG's Bank and Securities entities in EMEA and improve our ability to serve clients in a collaborative and effective manner.
An experienced banker and proven leader, since joining MUFG in 2019 John has worked closely with Taka on developing and overseeing the strategy and governance which have strengthened MUFG's EMEA franchise over the past two years. This last year has seen John and Taka steer the business through the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis, enacting MUFG's strong commitment to supporting clients, colleagues and the communities we operate in. John also recently became MUFG's Executive Sponsor for Race, just one of the ways he has supported Inclusion and Diversity initiatives in the region and helped to foster an inclusive and diverse culture.
"As one of the world's largest global banks, one of our unique strengths is the access we can provide to key markets across Asia where we see many opportunities for our clients.
"Our ability to add value to our clients in EMEA and around the world has substantially improved over the last two years and has bolstered our business," commented John Winter.
“In partnership with Taka, we have continued the transformation of our footprint in EMEA into a simpler, client-focused business, and I am very much looking forward to the next phase of our journey."
John has over 35 years of experience in the financial services sector, having started his career at Merrill Lynch in 1985 in New York. He then moved to London in 1992, joining Deutsche Bank in 1996 as European Head of Debt Capital Markets. He joined Barclays in 2001 as Head of European Investment Banking and was appointed CEO of the Corporate Bank in 2010.
