Masahiro Kuwahara was formerly Deputy CEO for EMEA and will take over the role of CEO from Masato Miyachi with immediate effect.

Masahiro Kuwahara has over 30 years' experience in banking, having worked across Asia, USA and EMEA. He joined one of MUFG's predecessor banks in 1986 and has held a number of roles within the firm. He was appointed Deputy CEO for EMEA in July 2015.

He will continue to be based in London and will report to Eiichi Yoshikawa, Co-Chief Executive of the bank's Global Business Unit.

Eiichi Yoshikawa said:

“Now more than ever, clients in EMEA need a stable financial partner with scale, a global network and a broad bench of product offerings. Masahiro will take over the good work of Masato and continue to grow our business across the region in a progressive and sustainable manner.
During Masahiro's long career at MUFG, he has been instrumental in enhancing the bank's global expansion and helping it to reach new frontiers. We are confident this experience will serve him well in furthering our ambition to be a first call bank in EMEA"
